Voices In Every Community

We need artistic voices in every community. Voices raised in song that chronicle our past, reflect the present and portray the future of towns and cities across everyday America.

SummerSongs, Inc. was established in 1999, and began the annual educational camps that have served more than 500 people from seventeen to seventy. Students return to their local communities from SummerSongs and WinterSongs with improved musical skills and greater appreciation for music as a social and historical force in their own lives and the lives of those around them.

Our teachers and facilitators are full-time writers, musicians and performers. Some are Grammy winners, like Julie Gold, others are well-known touring performers.

SummerSongs, Inc. provides one of very few opportunities for adults to gather together and share skills, knowledge and even their local cultural flavors from across America, and as far away as Canada, England, Japan and the Caribbean.

A Success Story – for the moment

Thus far, we have been able to:

  • Keep admission accessibly low
  • Provide scholarships and work-study for those who can’t afford to pay
  • Hire and retain our highly-qualified instructors and support staff
  • Maintain, and even expand our event schedule

We have been able to survive these last ten years, running a small but consistent deficit, paid for by last-minute donations from students, instructors, and even out of the pocket of Penelope Nichols Rothe, Ed.D., the founder and director of SummerSongs, Inc.

We need your help. Summersongs is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization*, so your donation is tax-deductible, and it will help bring music education to chroniclers and historians from communities like yours.
